Tumbleweeds bowling
Across the roving road
Torches keep glowing
As starlight in dusky sky
Watch, from the glass pane
The clear tears of the desert plain as I
Will you keep watching with my naked eyes?
Groundless comprising
Have nihilistic screen
View each one enticing
As outlines where they intervene
Look, upon messy
As blots upon the napkin laced in gold
Will you make stories from this time behold?
Has there been
Another way
Where I could see this sultry play?
Have beggar hands
And kingly face
For in my grip
Your's in its perfect place
Moon craters are shining
Through shadows on the lane
As is what's behind
So I catch in forward flashing
Here, with the passage
All the time is nothing to my world
If you will only take my hand unfurled
Had there been another way
I would not care as long your hold will stay
Across the roving road
Torches keep glowing
As starlight in dusky sky
Watch, from the glass pane
The clear tears of the desert plain as I
Will you keep watching with my naked eyes?
Groundless comprising
Have nihilistic screen
View each one enticing
As outlines where they intervene
Look, upon messy
As blots upon the napkin laced in gold

ONE DOOR FOR ALL
"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. [ROMANS 10:13] The protocols at the restaurant in my childhood and neighborhood were consistent with social and racial dynamics in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The kitchen helpers - Mary, the cook, and dishwashers like me - were Black; however, the in-restaurant patrons were White. Black customers could order food, but they had to pick it up at the back door. Such policies reinforced the unequal treatment of blacks in that era. Though we've come a long way since then, we still have room for growth in how we relate to each other as people made in the image of God. Passages of Scripture like Romans 10:8-13 help us to see that all are welcome in the family of God; there's no back door. All enter the same way - through belief in Jesus' death for cleansing and forgiveness. The Bible word for this transformative experience is saved (VV. 9, 13). Your social situation or racial status or that of others doesn't factor into the

Soldier Boy
Will you love a poor soldier boy Come newly home from war One who’s never seen or heard The likes of you before Will you allow me to carry you And try to end your pain For I’ve known suff’ring, I’ve known death And I’ve known birth again Will I be just a cog in the wheel, A hollow means to a hollow end, Will you treat me well and good And tend to me, my friend I have seen so much out there So much blood and guts and gore Too much of it, too much of hate Too much of angry war Will you listen to my tales, And try to understand The scared and shivering little boy Inside the full-grown man Will you kiss me, thoughtfully And never tell a lie If you speak false words to me Then I could surely die. Will you marry a poor soldier boy Whose life is now your own And if you but accept my hand I’ll place you on a throne Will you wear my ring and smile And tell me I’m okay If not, I’ll go, I won’t insist I’ll travel on my way Will you help a poor soldier boy One who’s so much in need Of a
