What makes the heart sing?
The silence of a peace
Quietness of calm
And joyfulness in bides
Having no mindfulness
Placed upon a break
Or loss of river way
That letting flow unchanged
For an easiness of music
What makes the heart sing?
A darkness of escape
A world slipped of the map
That plods the earthen days
Like water off the stream
Puddles deep as songs
Clear from no wash nor wave
Let see a night of long
And clarity regained
What makes the heart sing?
Wall-less chamber glass
Clear but show nothing less
Than what internal shine
Like fire in the rain
The safety left to know
A world has been contained
Protection of the heart
Will let it free to sing
The silence of a peace
Quietness of calm
And joyfulness in bides
Having no mindfulness
Placed upon a break
Or loss of river way
That letting flow unchanged
For an easiness of music
What makes the heart sing?
A darkness of escape
A world slipped of the map
That plods the earthen days
Like water off the stream
Puddles deep as songs
Clear from no wash nor wave
Let see a night of long
And clarity regained
What makes the heart sing?
Wall-less chamber glass
Clear but show nothing less
Than what internal shine
Like fire in the rain
The safety left to know
A world has been contained
Protection of the heart
Will let it free to sing

I hallucinate myself
I hallucinate a world within myself My mind an overarching membrane My blazing eyes the sun that burns Inwardly, penetrating the air I breathe Perpetrating Personalities both known and hidden I imagine myself a terrifying god I control the very nature of the universe My universe Perfectly apart From complexities that would diffuse the soul Into the chaos of physical existence I hallucinate And I dream for as long as I've been awake My future self no more real than the present Yet seemingly important Seemingly self-aware in its ignorance Who can ever escape this prison This endless wall that curves upon itself Surface smooth and permeable As if only to the things that hurt Vultures spawn from wishful thinking To peck and prod at worm-like memories Can the ego ever break this shell This glass-like structure where all falls apart Maybe it's the rules at fault A self-imposed chemistry of atoms not real I hallucinate a world And with it myself

ONE DOOR FOR ALL
"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. [ROMANS 10:13] The protocols at the restaurant in my childhood and neighborhood were consistent with social and racial dynamics in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The kitchen helpers - Mary, the cook, and dishwashers like me - were Black; however, the in-restaurant patrons were White. Black customers could order food, but they had to pick it up at the back door. Such policies reinforced the unequal treatment of blacks in that era. Though we've come a long way since then, we still have room for growth in how we relate to each other as people made in the image of God. Passages of Scripture like Romans 10:8-13 help us to see that all are welcome in the family of God; there's no back door. All enter the same way - through belief in Jesus' death for cleansing and forgiveness. The Bible word for this transformative experience is saved (VV. 9, 13). Your social situation or racial status or that of others doesn't factor into the

Hence another's freedom, can never be, unless one sacrifices the safety of observation. Relationships are a pact; to live in a constant balancing act, that leaves no room for escape, and no where else to go when the heart sings.
